LOCAL MAYORS ENDORSE SUOZZI
Bipartisan group applauds Suozzi for reaching across the aisle to get things done
Glen Cove, NY – Today, a bipartisan group of mayors, five Democrats and five Republicans, endorsed Tom Suozzi in his bid to reclaim the 3rd Congressional District.
“Today’s endorsement makes it clear that this race is not about Democrat vs. Republican or Republican vs. Democrat. These mayors understand that this race will be about who knows the district best and who will deliver results for the people in the 3rd Congressional District,” said Suozzi.
“Tom Suozzi has never focused on Republican or Democrat political affiliations. Instead, he has always focused on getting things done for his constituents. He has the experience, leadership skills, and the ability to understand, address, and fulfill the needs of New York’s 3rd Congressional district, and that is why I am standing with Tom Suozzi,” said Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand, a Republican.
“With his background as a mayor, Tom Suozzi has always been aware of the needs of the villages in his district. In my years in office, no one has made himself more accessible or available than Congressman Suozzi. I look forward to having a voice in Washington again,” said Roslyn Mayor John Durkin, a Democrat.
“I’ve known Tom Suozzi for many decades, both personally and professionally, during his terms as Mayor of Glen Cove, Nassau County Executive, and US Congressman from my district. He is a rare breed – in it for his constituents, not political gain,” said Lattingtown Mayor Bob Fagliola, a Republican.
“His efforts during his first two terms in Congress to help break the ‘DC Gridlock’ by reaching across the aisle as co-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus are well known,” continued Fagliola. “We need to send him back to DC to finish the job!”
“I have known Tom since he was Mayor of Glen Cove, and I served on the Board of the Glen Cove Child Daycare Center. Tom assisted in the early stages of the development of the Center as it exists today. I worked with him when he was Nassau County Executive and a US Congressman. He has always been a man of action and results. He works unbiasedly with anyone willing to collaborate for the common good. Tom delivers results, not talk. He has always been an outstanding advocate for the environment and has always delivered for his constituents on multiple levels. For a community that prizes its Waterfront and the natural environment, the Village of Sea Cliff has always been able to rely upon Tom Suozzi as a reliable resource for our voice in Washington,” said Sea Cliff Mayor Elena Villafane, a Democrat.
“As a mayor for the past 20 years, I have had the opportunity to interact with Tom whenhe was County Executive and then as a congressman. As a former mayor, Tom has always had concern for his constituents and has had periodic meetings with local officials to address their concerns and needs. I look forward to working with him again,” said North Hills Mayor Marvin Natiss, Republican.
“We need to elect to Congress someone who respects the office, who connects with constituents and elected officials as well, and someone who will reach across the aisle to secure fair legislation for all. That person is Tom Suozzi,” said Baxter Estates Mayor Nora Haagenson, a Democrat.
“One thing to say about Tom Suozzi: he brought the US Government back home to his district for a meeting with Mayors from many local villages. He asked us about issues that we were dealing with and what he could do to help. That kind of concern for citizens was unheard of previously. He is great, caring, and available to his constituents. I am with him 100%,” said Centre Island Mayor Larry Schmidlapp, a Republican.
“We need to restore sensibility and responsibility to our district as well as our House of Representatives. We need Tom Suozzi as our representative in Washington,” said Great Neck Estates Mayor Willam Warner, a Democrat.
“I could not be more pleased to have Tom Suozzi return to represent the North Shore of Long Island. His energy and positive approach to serving his constituents is unmatched. Politics aside, Tom is an outstanding, honest, and caring individual,” said Cove Neck Mayor Tom Zoller, a Republican.
“I support Tom Suozzi’s candidacy for New York’s 3rd congressional district. Tom previously served our district admirably for three terms, and I’m confident he can do so again,” said Roslyn Estates Mayor Paul Leone Peters, a Democrat.
“It doesn’t matter what party you are with, Tom Suozzi is going to do the right job for the people of his district. We need to put him back in Washington to continue to work for the people,” said Manorhaven Mayor John Popeleski, a Republican.
In October 2023, Suozzi announced he would run for NY3 in the 2024 elections. On Friday, December 1, 2024, the representative for NY-3 was expelled from Congress.
Governor Hochul will soon call for a special election to fill that seat.
