PILIP’S DOUBLE-SPEAK ON ABORTION

Pilip trying to pull the wool over voter’s eyes

Glen Cove, NY – The Suozzi for Congress campaign today is highlighting Republican Mazi Pilip’s double-speak on reproductive freedom. What’s worse, Pilip, running for the February 13 special election in NY-03 on the extremist Conservative Party line, has refused to debate, refused to answer questions, has offered no plans or ideas, and has been in hiding from the voters.

Last year, as a candidate for Nassau County Legislature, Steve Blank, owner of Blank Slate Media, interviewed Pilip and asked about her views on abortion after she stated in the interview that the Nassau Conservative Party endorsed her “because of for what I stand for [sic].”

Pilip deflected, answering whether she agreed with the Conservative Party’s extreme anti-abortion platform by saying that it was a federal government issue.

NEWSFLASH MAZI PILIP: YOU ARE CAMPAIGNING FOR FEDERAL OFFICE!

In her first interview as the nominee for the special election, the New York Times reported, “When Ms. Pilip was asked to state her position on a national abortion ban, a spokesman for the Nassau County Republican Party cut in to say that the candidate did not intend to ‘get through the whole platform here.’”

However, five days later, on December 19, Newsday reported that when asked about her stance on abortion, Pilip answered that she was personally “pro-life,” but that it was a “personal decision.” Four days after that, in a more friendly to her candidacy interview with Fox News, Pilip stated, “I’m pro-life. Me, Mazi Malesa Pilip.”

“Once again, on another pivotal issue in voter’s minds, Mazi Pilip is sitting on the fence instead of stating clearly what her positions are,” said Suozzi for Congress senior advisor Kim Devlin. “Does she support codifying Roe v Wade or is she against it?”

“Mazi Pilip thinks the people of Nassau and Queens will send her to Congress if she hides for the entire special election. She is hiding from debates; she is hiding from the media, and she is hiding from voter’s concerns.”

As she has in her last two campaigns, Pilip is running on the Nassau Conservative Party line, which states that abortion should be banned, even in the cases of rape or incest.

On every issue of concern to voters, from her position on assault weapons to whether she voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential election, to who she supports in the current GOP primary for president, to whether she agrees with the Conservative Party on abortion, Pilip gives nothing but evasive, non-committal answers.

“By hiding and refusing to debate the important issues that voters care about, Mazi Pilip is showing the same lack of transparency that George Santos did,” said Devlin. “She is trying to pull the wool over voter’s eyes, and they will not fall for it.”
